To make money blogging, you’ll first need to get yourself a blog. Pretty self-explanatory, but hey, ya never know.

CREATE AWESOME POSTS
Now, if you want people to read it, it’s got to be good. Rather than throwing together some rinky dink post, just to get something up on your blog, put some quality thought into it. What does your audience want to read? What can your knowledge and experience provide for someone else? What are you passionate about?
Maybe you teach something valuable. Or provide a solution to a problem. Maybe you’re there to simply entertain your readers. Either way, make it good. Take the time and energy to create a thoughtful, enjoyable post. And your readers will beg for more.
This can seem a bit daunting at first. Making new buddies on the internet isn’t the easiest for some people. But let me tell you, it’s totally necessary. And really, it’s not so bad.
In fact, it may just become one of the more enjoyable aspects of starting your own blog. Once you break the ice, networking within your niche can be an awesome component to your blogging strategy.
So, determine where your people hang out on social media. Does your niche prefer to mingle on Facebook and Pinterest? Or are they tweeting away on Twitter? Find them. And reach out to them. Comment on their blogs, ask for their advice, offer your advice, or maybe even collaborate. Building these relationships will likely prove vital to the success of your blog.
SELECT YOUR STREAMS OF INCOME
Now, what does all this hard work get you? Well, if you play your cards right, it’ll make you money. And depending on the way you work it, you’ll simply make a bit of pocket change, or you’ll get to quit that nasty old 9-5 of yours. Now I’ve got your attention!
So, let’s take a look at the different ways you can make money blogging.
One of the more popular ways to make money is through affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing essentially looks like this:
1. You partner with companies that sell products/services that you use and/or love.
2. You recommend these products/services to your readers, and include your special link (provided by the company) for readers to use at check out.
3. Once the purchase is made, you get a”cut”, or commission.
Easy peasy, yeah? And if used strategically, it can be a great source of passive income for your blog.
Some of the best ways in which I’ve found to use affiliate links are by including appropriate links in my blog posts, mentioning them in my monthly email newsletters, and referring to them in my social media updates.
One of the hottest social media platforms to utilize for affiliate links is Pinterest. It’s an awesome way to drive massive traffic directly to your affiliate links. So awesome, that I’ve written an entire post about how to make money with affiliate links on Pinterest.

Selling space on your website is one of the easier ways to make money blogging. Whether you’re just starting out, or you’ve got thousands of followers, placing ads on your site can be a great way to help bring home the bacon with your blog.
Many bloggers fall head-over-heels in love with direct ads.
Direct ads (sometimes known as sponsors) are often displayed as banner ads or display ads, which are provided directly to the blogger by the advertiser to be included somewhere on the blog. Payment methods and pricing can vary greatly from blogger to blogger, depending on the amount of traffic the blog brings in. Pretty straight forward.
So, a bit different from direct ads, contextual ads are most often pay-per-click ads. This means the advertiser pays the blogger each time someone clicks on their ad.
Typically, this type of advertising should be relevant to the blog’s content. Obviously this helps to increase the chances of a reader actually clicking on the ads and then making a purchase. Which, of course, is what we want, right?
One of the more popular contextual advertising programs is Google AdSense. If I were considering working ads into my blog, I’d get my feet wet with contextual ads.
PRODUCTS & SERVICES
Probably one of the biggest income streams for many bloggers, is selling stuff. There is something to sell within nearly every niche. And many bloggers are jumping on this money train.
A few of the more popular products and services sold through blogging include:
- Online courses/workshops
- Images or music for people to incorporate into their own content
- Apps, plugins, themes
- Web Designing
So, you ready to make money blogging?! Implementing a couple, or all of these income streams can help you build a wonderfully profitable blog. And I can’t wait to hear how it goes!
